Documentary Film
The film explores musical creativity, the meaning of success and community, and the power of fun in the colorful life and times of Spencer Barnitz, of Spencer The Gardener, a Santa Barbara cultural and musical icon.
2022 started with a Kickstarter to celebrate Santa Barbara’s local hero, Spencer Barnitz, and culminated with a preview of our full-length documentary film on the life and music career of Spencer the Gardener, a live concert, and VIP Reception at the Lobero Theatre.
On May 20, 2023, the feature film, More Than Just a Party Band premiered at The New Vic Theatre to a sold-out house!
This summer will see more screenings of the film, and the long-anticipated release of Spencer’s new album.

Emile Millar is a writer and producer who has been featured in dozens of films and TV shows including Marvel’s “The Avengers,” NBC’s “Parenthood,” Fox Searchlight Pictures “Waitress.” He lives in Santa Barbara, where he writes, produces, and teaches music.
Director / Photographer
Robert Redfield is an editorial and commercial photographer and filmmaker based in Santa Barbara California. He helps clients tell their unique stories through portraits, life-style images and inspiring documentaries.
Co-Producer / Production Mgr
Terri Wright is a content producer and production manager. Based in Santa Barbara, California she brings stories to life by collaborating extensively with experts in media, sound, musical composition, songwriting, and animation.
Associate Producer
Allee Gette is a content producer and digital marketing specialist. Her passion for acting and film brings real-life depth to her social media content — witnessed from both sides of lens.
