Not Just a Party Band is a blast to the past and a tribute to an artist, an era, and a town rich with community celebration and music. Discover a young man’s journey from local stardom with a glimpse of fame, to tragic bad luck and weeks in ICU. Spencer lives a surreal life that many have dreamed, where love of music and craft are fuel for an aging musician struggling to keep doing what he does best. And what he does is bring happiness and joy to thousands of people every year. Multiply that by a forty year career, and you get a whole lot of smiles.
Featuring music from The Tan and Spencer the Gardener, Not Just a Party Band is a portrait of an artist beloved by a community that spreads far beyond its area code. “We’re the biggest international local band in the world,” Spencer laughs, but to his fans, it’s absolutely true.

DIRECTOR Robert Redfield is an editorial and commercial photographer and filmmaker based in Santa Barbara California. He helps clients tell their unique stories through portraits, life-style images and inspiring documentaries.
EXECUTIVE PRODUCER Emile Millar is a writer and producer who has been featured in dozens of films and TV shows including Marvel’s “The Avengers,” NBC’s “Parenthood,” Fox Searchlight Pictures “Waitress.” He lives in Santa Barbara, where he writes, produces, and teaches music.
